Lighting Challenge #21: The Bedroom

#421

Thanks Hamburger!!! Your shot is one of the best for me, great lighting!! As for the splotches, the problem was even worst but when i put the vraylight inside the window it fixed a little bit. I hope with higher settings to fix it more.

#422

Little update, I added another light source, I still have to fix winter mood and outside atmosphere.

#423

Would there be any reason why my photon colour keeps defaulting to white, no matter how many times I change it, it goes back to white lol…

#424

Hi there, this is my second go at it. Thank you very much for the critique, Jeremy. There are still some light leaks and the textures very simple but I thought I’ll get the lighting fixed decently first. In this scene I’ve got a sun lamp and 4 area lamps. Two each for a sky blue color and a pinkish one.

Credits and comments are most welcome.

Are you using Maya 2010 by any chance? Never noticed this in any version before, but I can confirm that this has happened to me in Maya 2010 as well. It is so aggravating. I’m curious whether this is a known bug or not.

#427

here is the last version. I did some rework on the ceilling and made a cut between wall and upper surface. I also changed back the blind to be visible for gi.

In the next steps i will add some small details like ashtrays and some empty fast food packages.

After that i will begin the final cut with some atmospheric stuff like dust and volumetric light shining through the blinds…

big version

wip still in progress

@Shordy: Really nice man. You’ve taken this image a long way. The texture work is much nicer and it adds to the look of the final piece.

As a quick aside, I love Emperor! They’re on your poster. Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is one of the best metal records ever.

Here’s my update. Again using portal lights and FG. I’d love some feedback!

#431

Thank all for your comments and sugestions!
Jeremy and Kanooshka, thank for advice, it realy help me !

i have a lot of problem now, with my “funky 16 lights setup” i have many shadows rays (for ex: 128 for each points lights) if i would a clean and soft shadows… my computer don’t like it, its take too time for rendering, about 3H for a 1280x720 image! maybe i’m miss something?..

sorry for my bad english and my “newbie style” :buttrock:

#432

Great work Shordy!!! Only too much bottles for my taste!

CPFitz14: Nice work!! Some thinks that i would change for now are the blanket’s texture, the middles poster texture and guitar’s material.

#433

What U have said it will be very helpfool for me thanks

#434

Here´s my newest render
Still low-settings with lots of PS ^^
Hope that it´s better than my last one =)
The bed cover is only placeholder, i´ll spend it a Bayer Leverkusen (my favourite soccer team) or a texture of the German Soccer team

I usually use ray trace shadow only to the key light, if you want a clean and soft shadow, try to use Depth map shadow, you can use 512 in resolution with a filter size of 8 or 12, if you want more soft and control, use mental ray depth map shadow parameters, every light have a tab mental ray where you can configure that.

Comments.

xcEmUx: great image, try to create more shadow in the plants, between the cabinet and closet, i think that ambient occlusion would be help you.

CPFitz14: i like this image, great job, try to add a few specular light, in the bottle, plants, lamp.

Shordy: great!!. I dont know what to tell you, i like it.

halfPintMike: Nice render, try to add some background in the windows, that help you to create your ambient light in the room.

Vlada3d: Beautiful image, i like the color, texture, great render, only the black “blinds” ( what is the name of thing that there is in the window, i looking for in the dictionary and it show me the word “blind” but i dont know if it is the name) in the windows, try to create some translucent effect, and i think that image it would be great.

Waters: Nice start, keep working.
