Light Projection issue (maya w/ Vray)

#1

Hii guys, I’m having an issue here.
Basically, i need to project a movie onto some geometry, on top of whatever shader/texture is already on the geometry. the movie has to stay at its native ratio (16:9) so when I attempt to do it through a spot light, it crops it to a circle and tiles it etc, adding Barn doors only does so much and it’s really a pain to get it right.

does anyone have a technique for this? Basically, what i have to do it the following:

I have 5 cubes, 16:9. and i want the projected image (movie) to swipe over the cubes and land locked up on the last one, fitting it in its native 16:9 ratio…
I tried doing it with camera projections, which works greeeeat except that i need the projection to be on top of the original shader - so light projection seemed like the way to go but now im stuck.

reaallly hope someone can be of assistance on this one.

thanks a lot
Adam

If it makes alignment easier, you could transparency-map the images onto a 16x9 polygon, then shine a white light with a raytraced shadow through the polygon.
