I have set an object’s material to Halo and set the Lens Flare value to on. The problem is that the lens flare effect is visible even when other objects pass in front of it. They are solid objects, non transparent, so there is no reason to see through them. Any idea how to solve this problem?
Lens flare shows through objects
Actually there is a reason. Lens flares are a property of lenses so they should be visible as long as light from the source is reaching the lenses.
But, that is not the way it should be rendered. In the real world if a solid object passes in front of a light it should block the light from view. How can I achieve that effect? It’s the way it should work.
So is the lens visible when it behind solid object or when the source of light is behind the object. If latter, then it is not correct, so add lens flares in postprocessing.
Yes. the source object/light passes behind solid objects but is still visible. I guess I will have to go into post processing.
It really should be simpler than this.
You don’t have too.
I just tested and it works as should be. If i move the object with flare material behind a geometry, the effect disappears as it should with all its goodies.
Blender 2.49b here.
P.S. There is some bug on the forum. I posted this comment after bugzillas but it got on top of it.
Maybe that’s the problem. I’m rendering in Blender 2.5(current version). Seems like a bug in 2.5?
Sorry, I should have mentioned the version ahead of time. Anyway, know what the issue is with lens flares in 2.5?
I just checked halos with flares in 2.54 and it seems OK. Make sure it is actually hidden behind geometry - maybe it is too close to the surface and is peeping through.
