Leaves being blown up by passing car

#1

Hi.

I’m trying to make leaves on a road that will blow up when a car is passing by.

I have make a setup with the following:
Pflow with leaves, all spawned on first frame and laying on the ground

Deflector plane with a friction of 90%

Forces:
A wind (spherical) that moves a bit under the ground plane to lift some leaves
A gravity to pull the leaves to the ground
A drag to keep the leaves more steady while on the ground

Main Problem:
Rotation: The leaves should be flat on the ground but rotating in the air. I dont know how to control the rotation of the leaves in the different states (start on the ground, flying, falling and landing again).

Is this possible to do in Pflow, or should i rather move to reactor (I have limited experience in Pflow, but in reactor i am truly… troubled).

Any other suggestions for making it more natural is also welcome

I haven’t checked your file but an idea…

I think the easiest way to transfer particles to another state in this case would be to use a deflector. attach a deflector to the car. When the car passes the leaves the particles can be sent on to the next event. In event 02 add your wind, a spin operator, and an age test with some randomization, pass to event 03 with a gravity, another spin set to 0.0, and ground collision.

i did that for this project:

lemme dig out a file for this…

EDIT:

couldnt find the file, i recreated it quick and dirty. hope it points you in the right direction. u probably wanna have a “GoToRotation” operator when they land to have them laying flat on the ground again.

kind regards,

There is a particle flow “preset” of leaves blowing from passing car or carsin the 2010 samples folder.

Hi and sorry for the very late reply (suddently got another client and since our 3D department mainly consist of me i had to move out).

Thanks for your advice (and the sample file, its very neat ;)).

Sadly, i dont have 2010 (yet) but a friend of mine has got one, so i guess i should go see him within a few days to check out the preset.
