Downloaded the model but only a room is showing up at the moment. Is this an obj or an abc file? Thanks.

Ive never actually posted any of my challenge work on here before but I think this time around I will man up the courage. Just thought I would post what I was thinking after a couple hours of roughing out a couple ideas and landing on this one. Just finished reading Ready Player One again so I guess its fresh in my mind. I am using Renderman 19 which is not getting along at all with the nonmanifold geometry and triangles so I will probably have to remodel most of the main room. When I do, if no one has posted a .ma Ill be sure to upload it.

First of all, Hello! My account might not seems new but I’m new to posting my work here. I was playing around rendering as a hobby for a while and I would like to learn more about this. So I think participating in this challenge will be a good experience while it can be fun at the same time.

Now let’s talk about my work. After playing around the scene. I love the floor tile and thinking about some reflection on it will add a lot of interesting detail into the scene. I do experimenting in placing some light and the color scheme. And this is the result.

Next thing to do is texture and material work, Dust, Dirt, Scratch. Maybe some more props. I’ll update the the next WIP as soon as possible. And I would love to have any comments from you as it will help my work getting better. Thank you.

Firstly I have been watching these challenges for some time now - I think they are great.
Lighting is my main interest in 3d! Many thanks to the people invovled in providing their time, models etc. In the past because of time restrictions I haven’t been able to take part, but at the moment I do have some free time - so I thought I would give it a go.
But like Iceman10129 pointed out above there is a lot of problems with the geometry. It is a triangulated mess, non manifold geometry. The carpet is intersecting itself, the open drawers are filled in with a reversed face. Lot of weird shading, extra faces etc. It looks very odd when opened in Maya 2016, and in Maya 2015 renderman doesn’t like it at all.
I don’t want to sound ungrateful but It really needs to be re-modelled properly. I am not that keen to re-model a file which is not mine.
Shame - Maybe next time
Many thanks

I also have been wanting for ages to get into the action on the Lighting Contests, but have mainly held off due to a normal mess in the meshes and such. And while, yes, things are Triangulated and such, the Scene is pretty much easy to get through and Clean up.

At the moment, am working on cleaning it up cause it will be worth it, and not too much of a problem to do so. Only problem, am heading off to Stuttgart tomorrow, so might not get this done until this coming Monday or so. But, when I am done, will post at least a Cinema 4D Version, perhaps in other formats.

As a note, Cinema 4D has a nice Un-Trangulate Function as well as a Clean Up (Optomize Function) that does wonders… Think most of the errors happen when exporting out to the various formats

Note, here is a link with some tips

Hi,

Even I’m stuck with the geo cleaning. Found this informative tutorial on clean up in Maya.

Working on some textures and shaders. Not sure exactly what I want the render to be but I am figuring it out as I go along.

Geometry is giving me too much troubles in 3ds max :frowning:

#15

Updated new files !
Pls check them. I’ve done a quick render in C4D and they seem to work

Hi all,
first test with mantra…no textures yet. No post and a lot of detail to come.

#17

I’m rarely having spare time from my day time job now, Things getting busy on passed week. Still I’m feeling bad if I don’t update any of my progress. So here is some of texture work I’ve done. Not finished yet though. Things will get even dirtier from now on.

#18

Hi there! Coming here after a long time!

Here’s the first iteration. Have only worked on the composition and base lighting so far. And I’m starting to unwrap the meshes (they’re unusual, some of them)

Would love hear any feedback on this!

Here is my progress in texturing. Changing the daytime to evening or late afternoon.
Hope u like it.

Hi folks,

here is my first try with Corona Alpha 6.1, aiming for a neon street exterior. I am hoping to do all the textures with Substance Designer, hopefully most of it procedurally.
