Landscape painting - lake district

#1

A painting of the lake district in England.

I’m not really happy with the image, any tips would be appreciated.

It looks fine to me. One thing that you perhaps could remark on is that the highlights on the foreground are too bright and saturated, if I’m interpreting it correctly and it is in shadow.

Another thing you could try is to have some sunlight shine on the distant hillsides.

Thanks Bleke. I think you’re right about the foreground being too saturated, I’ll take it down a little.

As far as the lighting goes, it’s really ambient and diffused by even cloud cover so I don’t think there would be lighting on the hillsides. However! That means I’ve done the foreground wrong by painting a kind of dappled lighting effect onto it. So, I guess there’s little consistency in my lighting, I’ll try to adjust that. This is only my fifth painting that has lasted longer than an hour so I make a lot of dumb mistakes…

One other thing I’ve noticed is that some tree areas look really flat, I’ll have to try and sort that out.
