Landscape from splines/poly blocks

#1

I’m suffering from some frustration over a bit of a problem…

For a uni architecture project I need to generate a landscape based on an a modified ordinance survey map - from this map I’ve got a set of contours, done in Illistrator and imported as splines.

Trouble is, no matter what I try lofting wise I end up with a real mess, I’ve tried extruding the splines blocks and have a 3d contour map as a result but I need to make something smooth and rolling to plonk my project into.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or tips on how to make a landscape?

ta!

I think you’ve posted this is the wrong forum…

but if i had to do what you have to do, i’d take the modified map image with its contours into photoshop, and paint over it, white for the low areas, and black for the highest… that way you can get some nice blends. Then use that in your 3d software to generate the displacement.
