L pass, vanilla or RPManager

#1

I hope max includes a real pass system like the one in XSI one day. Until that day anyone can advise me about the best pass manager right now?

I know those 3: L pass, Vanilla Pass Manager and RPManager.

thank you. (I’m using Vray)

We use RPM and Vray in our pipeline, I’ve never used the other two but RPM is defiantly a life saver.Cant imagine having to submitting passes with out it.You can down load the full version and request a Personal license for free (limit to two passes) and try it out for your self.

Yeah, we use RPM here too with vray in our pipeline. Its definitely not renderer specific. To start with it was daunting, but I cant imagine working without it now. It handles projects very well and once you understand it, its really useful.

Also I think its fairly cheep for a license? Something like $100 bucks or something? I may be wrong though. And has a really good wiki type online help file, and quick email response from the designer.

thanks all,

I think that’s the one that looks the more production proven. I will give it a try first.

I use rpmanager as well. We have so many licenses, that we were basically given a site license with unlimited licenses. It can be finicky at times, especially as a project grows and the number of passes grows also, but as I’m always telling my boss: The alternative, would just be unbearable.

Is it possible the material override function doesn’t work with mental ray?

Which is the usual way to use material override in RPManager. Maybe I’m doing something wrong…
