Keyframe audio mute (-48db not enough!)

#1

Hi, on certain frames I want to mute one of the audio tracks, so I have keyframed so that regularly the audio is at 0db but when I don’t want it I turn it down to full -48db to “mute” it, as recommended in every forum thread on the subject I’ve found.

Problem is, when you put on really good headphones you can still hear the “muted” sound, -48db is very quiet but but still audible.

Is there anyway I can completely mute a track on certain frames?

Unfortunately I can’t do this in an audio editor as I need to be able to quickly tweak the timings inside of AE.
Also I can’t cut it up into many peices and crop the lenght, as then my AE layers would be drowned in hundreds of audio layers.

You could perhaps try also adding an effect that has audio level control, like the Stereo Mixer filter set with both channels from 100% to 0%.

You would then have 3 keyframes to deal with rather than 1, but it should completely mute the sound. You can just copy and paste the keys too
