Being honest the Bridge looks 2d at the moment, can you pump up the light a little bit on the sides, just so that it pops.

Its been annoying me, couldnt quitel put my finger on it till now, Its a quick fix,

Sorry to point this out, as I like this matte.

Dylan, this is looking fantastic so far. But I’ll echo what both Aaron and Richard have said with a twist: to my eye, London Bridge seems either a bit too large or it’s still just a tiny bit too far in the distance with your atmospheric persp. It honestly seemed to work better in your 1-21 WIP in my opinion. I think because that version of the bridge feels slightly more weighted at the bottom and therefore closer? More importantly, the angle of the bridge seems off. Have you tried flipping it? Right now it’s reminding me of an MC Escher image, both right and wrong at the same time. Flipping might make it right, but …um… I could be wrong. Anyway, overall your painting’s looking great and I like the dreadful dreariness of it. Looking forward to seeing completed!

@ Aaron: Great call man. I appreciate it. Didn’t even notice their size until you mentioned it. Thanks!

@ Richard: You read my mind, sir. I’ve been avoiding the bridge lit faces for way too long. Haha. I didn’t want to tackle that till the end, but you forced me into it

@ Thaddeus: Thanks much! And I think you’re right. I’m not sure when the size increase happened, because I don’t remember doing that from the previous post. But alas, I did. Haha. As for the angle, I felt like it worked as a descent pointer towards the focal building, and reversing it really felt off to me. I guess I’m having a tough time seeing what you’re seeing here  Probabaly because I;ve been staring at it for so long. Is anyone else having issues with the bridge angle?

This is going to be my last WIP before posting the final tomorrow. Headed to the Creative Juice Expo for the weekend, so I can still squeek in a few final adjustments before my flight. Anyone else going to be there this weekend??

Gah! Gotta catch my flight. Thanks again to everyone that dropped me some feedback. I really appreciate it. This was quite the learning experience for me and everyone really brought their A-Game. Congrats to all and see you in future challenges!

Hey Dylan,

The right half of your painting is so nicely done… I like that clump of buildings and crates and how they lead you down to the wharf.

About the bridge: to be honest, I really don’t see anything off about it now. It looks great! Not sure what you did (if anything) but it’s rock solid for me now. So not sure what I was seeing the other day either… haha. I was just saying that my mind (which may or may not be working properly, I’ll ask my wife) keeps wanting to ‘flip’ the two towers to face the other way because the right tower suggests it might be sitting in the river instead of on the far riverbank in the smaller thumbnail version. I’m really splitting hairs, so will shut up now and it’s not even happening when I look at your hi-res painting. You’re right that the angle is done perfectly well and proper and actually I like the dichotomy that …um… apparently only I was seeing? :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, just an observation, not something to fix. In fact, that BG area is crazy gorgeous(!) and has the feel of an old dutch oil painting.

Good luck, man, and have fun at the expo.

(Now please return the flavor… I could use some feedback on the WIP I just posted. Thanks!)

Thanks again Thaddeus! I saw your update this morning. Currently waiting at my flight gate with some time to kill. Will respond to your thread shortly!

Hey Dylan !
Beautiful dmp here !
At the beginning i didnt like the bridge, it was too obvious and looked offscale for me… But now you manage to integrate it so well. Its giving a really good rhythm to the image.
Also like your color mood a lot !

dude!! awesome entry, love it! love the stack of crates! my only crit is that the road in front of the plate building entrance doesn’t seem well blended. distracts me a bit, but it’s too late for that now. you goin to creative juice expo too? i hope we run into each other!

Huge work done here. Good one. Congrats!

@ Norberto: Thanks so much! I too was nervous about preserving the bridge for the final. It’s quite a large shape and borders on the cliche’. But it think it worked out ok in the end. I appreciate it, sir! Spent a while trying to get the palette and mood just so. I think it’s a bit more painterly and illustrative than I would have hoped, so I might try to tone that back a bit on the next piece.

@ Eddie: Thanks man! I agree with you. There’s a few spots I’d still like to touch up but I had a blast working on this topic. Great seeing you out at Creative Juice! Wish I would have checked this thread sooner so we could have met up on the first day instead of the last, haha. Next time

@ Maxim: Thank you kindly!

Allo Dylan,

Love the reimagination of the Tower London bridge, even though I know the scale is a bit off, it works in general with everything together. Great use of the element! I like the last sun light of the day feel of this piece with the contrast of the darker looming sky on the top left. The smoke stacks really make the place feel dirty in the atmosphere even if unintentional by it’s citizens. Nice and clear ground/roads leading through the city, and I like the wetness on the ground as well as those nicely stacked up boxes on the right! Here are some general notes, just like from the workshop :stuck_out_tongue:

  • Great thickness of smoke stacks on the left side. But on the right, it could be thinner, and less black as it’s closer to us and smaller in scale.
  • Some slight fringing on the top of the main building, some white specs.
  • Also not noted in the image notes, far left hand side of the gray building/lamp post is just a bit out of place. And maybe dirty/weather up the white building just a bit more that is to the left of the main lit building.

Other than that, great! Congrats on 3rd place here.
