I just don’t get it: how is that possible that the “floor” level in Maya is positioned correct (that is, immediately under the object), but when I composite the renders in Nuke, there’s this huge gap - as if the object is not sitting on the floor, but hovering over it?
What am I doing wrong??? What can I do to put it back on the floor?
IT CANNOT BE! Or what am I doing wrong?
i would think of 2 possible errors here:
- you have a displacment on the floor and/or the object
- your “floor” is not sitting in the right position in maya, a very small distance can show in the render as several pixels
you could also try to do a “disjoint over” in the merge node, which will close some gaps in the alpha channel
Hey Pingking,
thanks for helping out!
I double checked the distance - there’s no gap! If anything, it’s slightly covers the object’s bottom…
Can the reason be the partial transparency and the bump map on the floor plane (not that I think so, but…) ?
Have not tried the disjoint over yet…
Also, my camera focal length is 30 mm - can this be a reason? I don’t know, maybe some perspective jokes, though 30 mm is still reasonable, no?
Disjoint-over did not work, but I guess I have to re-render anyway. After I figure out what’s wrong. This gap is way too big to come from my compositing workflow.
Geez, I think it’s the shadow. If I remove it, it looks just fine! Maybe I need to re-render shadow layer with some cutout matte…
Okay, there’s no problem with Maya. It’s all compositing. If I render the object and the floor layers simultaneously in Maya, there’s no gap!
I fixed the problem by dilating (expanding) the size of the shadow in Nuke. Does not look perfect, but acceptable for this project.
Never thought something like this can happen! Now I know better :hmm:
