Isolate Mode on Steriods:unifying LW/Modeler

#1

I was thinking that applications like 3DSMax and XSI have isolation modes where you can go in and work on a model. I was thinking that if Newtek was to unify Modeler and Layout then maybe th process can be this isolation mode that looks like Modeler but inside of Layout.

Sort of how Setup mode in Messiah kinda cancels everything else out when its active.

fully agree!

However … as usual, make it optional if possible. If it’s possible to make the modeling tools to work in the standard enviroment without isolation, they should leave that possibility for those that prefer it. Newtek should not be restricting and dictating everyones workflow, they should do the opposite, support everyones diverse workflows! And the only way to do that is to build an enviroment that is basically without restrictions of what can be done and when it can be done. Something like an isolation mode should pretty simple to implement in an enviroment that has no restrictions to start with and it should be purely in the interface layer. If 3rd parties could implement/script their own, even better.

Just to bring up one example - I find some the new bone tools slightly limiting and annoying to work with because they only work at frame 0. This restriction is totally arbitrary and is just protecting the morrons from themselves leaving those who do know what they are doing annoyed. Maybe I would prefer to have my rest pose keyed at -1!? Maybe I would like to use the pose in frame 15 as my new rest pose!? It’s this kind of steamrolling and protectionism that makes the software less and less flexible.

But yes, I’d also want modeler inside of layout, and would think that customizing and preseting different enviroments for different tasks would be a very good way to integrate the two and also bring some added value (of possible for users to customize, store and recall their own interface presets).

I’m sure both of you didn’t have a restricted implementation in mind. I just wanted to clarify that there are several ways to implement something and that I (we?) prefer the more flexible one. It doesn’t always seem obvious that NT understands this, or the old core has just been limiting them all these years.

Couldn’t you just keyframe the pose from frame 0 to frame 15?

Isolation mode and keeping a Modeler.exe potional if one wanted to use Modeler as a separate app would be flexible in my eyes.

Yes, agree, thought of the idea before, but forgot about it.
Still, I HAVE to be able to tweak the model/points in the Layout Camera view this time around.

That’s very essential.
