Is there anyway to playblast a FumeFX grid?

#1

I’m trying to get the timing down on some of my smoke drifts, and the viewport animation is far too slow and clunky due to frame skip and whatnot. I’d like to record a playblast (or animation preview if you like), and include the viewport channel output so I can see how fast this stuff is moving… In Maya or XSI it records whatever is on the screen… in max you have to specify, and I can’t figure out how to make it display the FumeFX grid.

If anybody knows how to do this I’d be glad to hear it

Can’t you use Fume’s native preview window and output it that way? You can scale the preview window to whatever size you need and then render out a playblast/preview. Then when the preview opens you can simply save it to where ever you like.

Mind you the bigger the window the longer it will take to preview.

Hope this helps.

Make a preview out of fume? Or you can enable the chunky voxel preview display and make a viewport preview.

Just want to mention there’s a little " + " button next to “enable display” which will keep the voxels visible when the grid is no longer selected.

Oh! Didnt know. Thanks for that.

Aha, now we’re talking. Yeah, the chunky voxel display was what I was trying to get to display. I didn’t realize that when you created an animation preview it was deselecting your fume grid, and thus hiding my visualization.

Thanks guys, all good suggestions and I’m on my way!
