Is Photoshop a correct tool to create human object?

#1

Hi,

I am creating a scene in Photoshop and bit confuse about creating human object.
I am trying to create a “human” (i.e. girl in wedding dress outside a door) but I am not sure if I am correct. I mean, is Photoshop a correct tool to create human object?

If No: Do I need to use some other software like (Maya) or any other third party tool to create object and embed in my scene.

If Yes: Do I need to use some “digital note pad”? Is this what usually performed in professional way?

Your question is a little difficult to understand. If you are trying to merge two photos together (or paint something in a painterly fashion), then Photoshop is probably what you want to use. If you are trying to create a human figure from a 3D model and render it into a flat image you can use to merge into a scene, then you need a 3D program like Maya, Max, XSI, or Blender. You seem pretty new to this, so if you’re going the 3D route, you might consider something like Poser, which comes with tools for creating humans from scratch relatively easily.

Can you provide an image of something similar to what you’re attempting to create?

Hi,

Thank you for your response.
You can visit following link (http://ashvinis.blogspot.com/) to view my scene named as “Alice at Door”).

Sorry for confusion, here I am putting my question in to the point.
I am thinking to create human object (i.e. weeding dress girl) in my scene. Now my queries are:
A.Is Photoshop is correct tool to create such 3D images in 2D environment?
or
B.Is there any other software which I should use and then import that 3D image in my photo?

Whatever is your answer (A or B) is that professional way in today market?

Note** I just want to create human object not necessary it should be hardcore 3D object.

3D humans are about as “hardcore” as it gets - it simply doesn’t get much more difficult.

If you want to paint the human, Photoshop will be fine and your only limit will be your painting skills.

But Photoshop is not a 3D modeler. To create a 3D human model you can look into Wings, Blender and Sketchup to name some free software options.

Poser has “basic” human shapes that you can then personalize but it’s not free, although it’s not too expensive either, for all the tools it provides.

I think that you are asking whether Photoshop is the correct tool for creating a 3D rendering of a human… Answer: No

Photoshop is a digital compositing or photo manipulation tool and does not do 3D modeling. However, if you already have a model with textures baked and saved you can pull that 3D object into Photoshop CS4 in order to composite an image.

You can draw/paint or composite an exisiting image into another with photoshop - which is probably what you will be doing if you do use Poser, Maya, 3DS Max etc… there are several tutorials out there on how to do this. Thes best sites for digital painting techniques are Ballistic Publishing (tutorials are not free but they are in depth and very thorough), 3dtotal has some tutorials that are free and you might be able to get what you need from there.

I would suggest that if you are just starting out and really have no experience with 3D packages that you try Poser or DAZ 3D. DAZ 3D is free but the add-ons will cost almost as much as buying Poser, either way you can purchase different human forms and outfits to suit your needs. Check out Renderosity.com or ContentParadise.com to view what is available. Once you are done creating your “Human” you will still need Photoshop to do post render finishing and both of those sites contain a wealth of information and tutorials on how to do this.

In the end it doesn’t matter what tools you use or how you do it - the end product is what is important. If you have any amount of drawing capability and know how to render an image by painting it - you may be better off just doing that. 3D packages are complex and take a lot of time to learn. It isn’t instant and you will need time to learn enough to accomplish even menial tasks.

Good luck!
