Just noticed the ad with ATI button at the bottom…Does it mean something? Where are they heading on video support…is this gonna affect vid card choices? I always got the impression NVIDIA was best for 3D apps

No more than they’re courting Intel. This is just a end user “solution” presentation. An equally good end user solution would be Luxology / AMD / Nvidia.
Hopefully, ATI (AMD) and Intel paid some money to Lux to provide this solution and display it at this French show. This solution business has been around for years, making it easy for customers to know that this particular solution will work for them but so many other solutions will work as well.
Also, Modo has always been most of the flexible apps in turns of video card support. I don’t see this changing any time soon.
I’d still go with Nvidia because of their Cuda support and the hope that someone will offer a real time rendering solution for Modo users as a plug-in renderer. Hopefully, Cebas Final Toon will do so. Has anyone tried their standalone RTS with Modo? Ive been experimenting with Octane (Refractive) exporting obj files into it but direct in-program support would be so much better. (can’t export multiple maps with objs).
Ford or Chevy?
I wouldn’t worry about Luxology developing for just one video adapter company. modo works well with all kinds of video cards that have come out in the last five years. It’s much more difficult to develope for multiple OS platforms though. And it looks like Luxology is continuing that tradition also.
i am not using the pro versions of GPUs but i noticed modo worked better on my old nVidia 7600GS than on the ATI 4670. Not that it was faster but more reliable, less crashy… i think it was just more compatible. On the ATI i also had problems with texture resolution in OpenGL preview (it was capped to 1024x1024). If i upgrade my new GPU will probably be nVidia GTX 4xx series.
One note: i use modo 302
