is it possible to convert ?

if you animate your polygon object in motionbuilder and then import it into maya, is it possible to convert your polys to subds and render it? or will the joints break the connection to the mesh once you convert it into subd?

If your animation has imported into Maya correctly then anything from that point on is really a Maya question. If weighting in Maya survives mesh changes then you’ll be fine doing this, if it doesn’t then you won’t be fine. Personally I don’t use Maya so I couldn’t tell you; you’d be better off asking on the Maya forums.

Essentialy when you do some animation in motionbuilder you plot the animation onto the skeleton so that if you bring your scene into maya your animation will still be there on the skeleton rig. If you then convert that mesh into a sub-d mesh I’m pretty sure it will tranfer the skin binding acrss.
