Is it ok to watch 3ds max modeling tutorials that made using old 3ds max versions ?

I am a new bie to 3D modeling and watching modeling tutorials to learn. I am using 3ds max so I watch tutorials that made for 3ds max.

I got a very good modeling tutorial from my friend. it is race bike modeling tutoials created on 3ds max 2009. I asked him “This tutorial used very old version of 3ds max (2009) , but now we are using 2016. So I think this tutorial may be outdated” .

He replied that “From 3ds max 2009 to 2016 there is no big change in polygon modeling tools. They are adding new tools for animation , lighting, performance but adding new " polygon modeling specific tools” are very low. So there is no change form 2009 to 2016 with respective to polygon modeling tools "…

So my questions are ::

  1. Is this true that from 3ds max 2009 to 2016 there is no big change in polygon modeling tools in 3ds max ?

  2. So is it ok to watch tutorials made using old version of 3ds max ?

The only useful differences in software updates would be additional / improved tools, so yes you can use older max versions, just sometimes you’ll be missing some of them tools.

Here’s some of the added features…

Also helpful to keep in mind when upgrades are released changes to the tools categories often occur, in terms of efficiently navigating the revised UI, for example re-locating a specific modifier. So its always handy getting up to speed via the user manual or even customising the 3D workspace configured too your needs.
