Ireland Matte

#1

Hey guys,

I just finished up some freelance and wanted to take a break from my cgtalk challenge painting so I decided to start this matte. I still have a lot of work to do so any crits would be great!

The bottom image is the plate photo.

Thanks!

great work, man!

great work indeed, no critics for me, I would make the castle a little bit more impressive, bigger, I think it is too small and simple now

great colors and mood

Hey thanks for the comments guys!

I am glad you both like it. I am going to do a little planning for the structure up on that cliff and hopefully I will be able to come up with something interesting. Also I hope to get some more interesting things going on in the water with the boats. One thing thats also on my mind is the foreground. I may add something to it, maybe a building close to the camera but I am still not very sure.

Thanks guys!

Lovely,
Although, the cloud cover might be conflicting with the sunlit portion of the ground a little bit. Its hard to say. Otherwise very nice work

Great work!

Thanks for the comments guys!

jaredr: Hey man , thanks for the crit but I am not exactly sure what you mean. I know when I adding the god rays coming from the left it wasnt just to help sell the light direction but to break up that section of cloud a bit so it wouldnt turn that ground into something that would compete with the main focal point which is the cliff and castle.

I did some more work this morning so I thought I would post it. I also added a couple close ups at full res so you can see what was painted and so on.

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments

I decided to redo the structure at the top of that cliff, I wasnt feeling good about the other version.

Also I started working on a camera projection to the matte aswell , the link is HERE

Thanks guys!

I didn’t think it was possible for this country of mine to get any cloudier, but it just did. Nice work. I particularly like the way the sky contrast draws you immediately to the clifftop fortress.

Thanks for the comment Danny! Sorry for making Ireland so cloudly , but its a beautiful place no matter the weather haha

#13

Thanks for that Matt. We get so much cloud and rain here that it’s wetter than Atlantis :scream:
