Instaling my copy of MotionBuilder in a new computer

#1

Hello:

Hope its ok to ask this here…

I’m trying to install my MotionBuilder Standard 7 license (which I bought in 2005 when it was run by Alias) into a new iMac (Intel)

I was able to install it using my serial number that I got by e-mail from Alias with the original CDs, but I need a license key file… Which I think (but nor sure) that I got from Alias also by e-mail for the final activation…

I remember (kind of fuzzy) that I had trouble with the last part of the activation process last time… I think I had to put or create the license file in a special folder ( had to look for it because it was “invisible” or something like that…) but I had it running for 2 + years now…

I contacted the Protexis guys ( which I got their e-mail from Alias/Autodesk) after all the compalnts they got here in the forum and I guess everywhere else… that they wouldn’t give support to the software if you didn’t upgrade to the Expensive version.

I have no intention of upgrading since I only use it every blue moon (and don’t need the pro features), but I do want to have it running in my new machine… I contacted the Protexis people and sent them the number I had and my machine ID, but they responsed that it wasn;t a Protexis number… And they couldn;t help me…

Has anybody installed it in a new machine recenlty ( an old copy of 7 standard in Mac OS X)? Is it just looking for the license file in my old computer and changing the hardware ID with a text processor…? Could someone point me to where the file is in my System and where to put it in the new one…?

I think I’m just having trouble with the last part of the proces… since I installed the software…

I run the wizard and the last step is to search my computer for the .dat (license file) or to copy and paste it… But where is that danmned file…?
i think its just a very simple thing I’m missing…

This from the MN install PDF 'Mac OS X: You may be prompted for your administrative password if your current user account lacks permission to write a file to /var/
flexlm.

I do provide my password… but everytime I run motionbuilder it tells me there is no license file installed…

Any suggestions…?

Thanks in advance,

fjv

P.D. This is the last piece of software that I need to install so I can sell the old computer…

And I KNEW I was going to have trouble with it …

This is what was sent out to many MB users a loooong time ago. Looking at the first paragraph, it says that MB7 users are not affected. This would seem to indicate that you need to get in touch with AutoDesk for any kind of activation code. Users of previous versions need to go the Protexis route.

Hopefully this helps.

Hey guys,

I apologize for the delay in getting this out to you, but we are going to be sending a supplemtry communication to MotionBuilder Standard users (versions 5, 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 and 6.0.1) to clarify the license server termination notice that was sent out (version 7.0 users are not affected). This is the text that will be sent out:

Hello MotionBuilder Users,

This communication supplements the one previously distributed in regards to the retirement of the MotionBuilder Standard product. This communication provides additional clarity and relevant support information for existing users.

First, at no point do existing software licenses become disrupted, invalid or revoked; the codes, and therefore, the licenses and the software remain fully operable, in accordance with the End User License Agreement.

In certain cases if a user was to change hardware components of its system, a system crash were to occur, or the user attempts to transfer its license to another system, the Protexis Licensing Activation System could require a new activation serial number.

However, and this is the second point, Protexis advises it continues to support its Licensing Activation System. Therefore, if a user’s activation code becomes invalid users can request a new activation for their software license, by contacting Protexis support as noted below. Users must provide to Protexis the software name and version number, as well as their original serial number…

o Link to the Protexis support website - http://www.protexis.com/support/support.htm

We trust this supplemental information alleviates concerns regarding continued use of the MotionBuilder Standard product.

Thank you for your attention,

Thanks…

I been trying to use a webkey generator that I found in their site

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=7100409

But it just hangs my computer when i run it…

Let’s see if I can find support directly from them and forget about Protexis…

P.D. would be a shame to just not make this software work…

Good Luck Fernanado. I’ve tried e-mailing AutoDesk several times and have NEVER once received a response. Apparently unless they’re being paid, they don’t want to talk to you.

Let us know how it goes.

Well after finding the right e-mail here:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=9261835

I used the hotline e-mail address and I got an e-mail from an autodesk representative:

“Please contact the ABC Group to obtain a new Serial number and activation.
Their information is advbus.abc"attautodesk"dot"com
1-800-225-1087
I’ve cc’ed them on this e-mail to expedite this for you
dwayne”

After sending the e-mail I got my new license file in a few minutes.

I’m up and running again.
