Inspiring questions to help coming up with a story?

#1

Hello alltogether,

I’m once again in the situation to have to invent a good/funny/dramatic story really fast, and I bet you know how agonizing it can be to sit in front of an empty paper having to come up with something good as soon as possible.

I know of advertising people that have dozens and dozens of questions prepared, that they can ask themselves to enhance their brainstormings. There are whole books and card boxes filled with hundreds of such questions. Now I wonder whether something similar exists for the storytelling industries.

Questions like perhaps “What influence can time have on the protagonist?” or “What super power could help the protagonist in solving the conflict?” or “What if you asked a fool?”. Just to create a flow of steady inspiration to widen your thinking  .

Did you ever come across something like this? Or what are you doing to be creative under time pressure?
