I'm looking for advice.

This piece is inspired by the indie game Limbo and it's incredible soundtrack (Martin Stig Andersen).

While working on a “conceptual” VFX Reel for upcoming job interviews, this image of small character lost in a floating rock came up inside my head. It’s supposed to stress the idea that no matter how isolated you are you are still connected to the outside world weather it be physically or psychologically, and , in a personal note, portrays my transition out of Film School into the “real” world. It’s supposed to be abstract and simple.

The problem is I found myself explaining too often what was going on in the picture or what the audience is supposed to see. Which only means I failed in the basic composition of the illustration. This is my first attempt at illustration in Photoshop and it helped me practicing 3D integration in a 2D still.

That’s why I’m looking for some criticism regarding color, values, light, anything, to help me point out what’s really wrong. I think it has to do with uncertain values and lack of depth, which throws off perspective. And I’ve been told the middle is too crowded with stuff.

3D done in Modo 601, illustrated in Photoshop with Red Giant Looks for effects.

Thank you
