Increasing intensity of a surface...

#1

Hello,

I wondering if theres some way i can create a progression of a texture increasing in intensity?

-thanks

what kind of shader? could you just keyframe the color value?

No, I should have been more specific, the thing I am trying to accomplish is to have a series of images, textures etheir made in a 2d application or 3d, of a surface getting increasingly softer or rougher…For instance, a rough pebbly surface turns into a rough rocky boulder texture…

Does this make sense? Any ideas of how I can accomplish this?

oh, well you could build a layered shader out of your series of textures and keyframe the alpha of each layer. That would be kind of a fading in between them.

If you ran the a second greyscale layered shader to run into something like a bump or displacement it might look more like your surface is transforming instead of just fading between the two.

I’m not familiar with shading networks in maya, could I do it in photoshop or sculpt it out in mudbox/zbrush?

You coul do it in Photoshop with layers, each layer having different sized pebbles. Use a soft eraser brush on each layer until it looks blended in right. Then make an Alpha for use in Zbrush.
