Seem when you import as a layer the vertices get all gumbled
Importing Zbrush models?
Yeah, I ran into this problem.
Basically there’s no completely accurate way to do it, but you can get pretty close.
Export your base mesh from Zbrush, then the highest level. Bring in the base mesh to mudbox and subdivide it to the same level as the highest in Zbrush–mudbox subdivides differently so all levels above the base mesh will have different vertex numbers than in Zbrush–but mudbox can look at the UV’s to match the meshes. So go to File>Import To Layer and select your highest level export from Zbrush, and then in the little settings window, select Match By: UV Position, set the tolerance really low, like 0.0001, and then hit OK. The result should be really close. On my model the head just had some weird small pits in places, but those were easily smoothed out without messing up the model.
