importing HDV into Combustion

#1

Hi there! I just bought the JVC GY-HD100 camera which shoots at 720p HDV. I shot some green screen stuff over the weekend and imported it from the camera into Premiere Por 1.5.1 with no problems. But now when I import the files into Combustion 4.1, they show up as audio files only. I do know that Premiere is saving them as MPEG 2’s using Cineform’s Visual Perfect format … my question is: does anyone know where I can get a free codec or plug-in which would alllow me to import this footage into Combustion? I’ve been to the Autodesk website and they have no info addressing the problem.
Thanks!

Vinny

Did you try to export a sequential files (like tga) from Adobe Premiere and than importing them to Combustion. I know that is not the answer of your question but maybe the solution can help…

HDV is still fairly new. Right now only Editing software has added support for it. Do as Milo suggested and export it as a sequence.

I have a problem of combution import footage too. not about the HDV. but the mov file from FCP. I can convert it to the file sequence, but it cause the quality loss. any suggestion of the convertion without loss will be appreciated. Sure i have use the lossless format.

There won’t be any loss if you convert to a lossless file format. Just don’t use jpg.

Beaker, I do use the lossless format, like .tga or .tif, but when i read it back to the FCP or FLAME, the saturation and luminance is diffent to the original one. The convertion tool that i have tried is: FCP, SHAKE.

Don’t know if anybody cares… but I figured out the solution. Actually, I didn’t figure it out … I just spent a week online poking around till I found the answer!

If anyone cares … all you have to do is download and install the Sony “Vegas” demo from off their website. When you install Vegas, it’ll install a codec that Combustion will use to import the footage. You can uninstall Vegas immediately after and the codec will remain on your computer.

Hope this helps anyone else!
