Is it possible to import an animated camera from a 3D app and use it in AE? I have an animation that i created in Maya including an animated camera that i want to import. Is this possible? Or do i have to animate the movement all in After effects?
Importing 3D camera data
If you render out your sequence out of Maya into an .rpf sequence (including z-depth and coverage channels), you can use Animation > Keyframe Assistant > RPF camera import to generate a camera based on the 3D camera in Maya.
Thanks so much for the reply, were can i find this .rpf format? I’ve looked every were and i can’t locate it.
Sorry, I’m a Max user with very little Maya experience… presumed it had RPF export support.
Actually thinking about it further I think After Effects supports importing .ma files directly. Should bring in all your camera data and any nulls you have in your scene (there might be a naming convention to bring in specific nulls, check the AE documentation).
Hope that helps.
You need to bake your animations before saving to ma format and nulls need to have names that start with “null”, “Null” or “NULL”. Just search “Maya” in the After Effects help file.
