import to maya

#1

Hey guys,

Iam pretty beginner.
I sculpted a Model in Zbrush and i want to go to Maya for rigging. So my problem is, i got six subdivision Levels and multiple subtools, its very high poly. I tried to Merge the Subtools because when i dont do that, i can just see one Subtool in Maya. But i cant make a UV Map cause the resolution is too high when i try to do it it will crash cause i need to stay in subdivision level six otherwise i lose details by merging. So it cant be right. So how can i go to maya simply without losing the details from subdivision and with all subtools in it?

Sending all subtools should be fine, just make sure you’re hitting the correct button in GoZ (the “GoZ” button only sends the current subtool, you want to click the “all” or “visible” buttons next to it). If you are using multi-map exporter, be sure you’ve flipped the “subtools” switch and that all relevant subtools are visible. You’ll probably want to bake to a vector displacement map so you can rig at a lower subdiv level.

In short:

  1. Make UVs, either with UV master or send to Maya at low-res and do it there
  2. If you sent to Maya to unwrap, send it back to zbrush now
  3. Export low-res+displacement to Maya. Rig, plug in displacement and be on your way.
