Import Reference Problem

#1

Hi there,

I’m implementing a Modo > XSI > Modo pipeline and am getting stuck on a few issues. I’m using Modo to model, texture, light and render and using XSI purely for animation. I was wondering if anyone could help me out on one problem in particular!

The biggest issue I’m having is with Modo’s ability to import reference models. Ideally I would like to import as many of one .lxo scene as I can but Modo (annoyingly) only allows you to import an .lxo scene once.

For example, I have a street scene and would like several lampposts in it. If they are all reference models and I decide I want to change the colour of the lampposts I can modify the original and they all update in the street scene.

Duplicating the meshes in the original lamppost .lxo scene is one way around it but is not very practical as the texture information would have to be updated for each duplicate individually.

I have also been looking at using item presets (mesh (.lxl), assembly (.lxp) and environment (.lxe)) to solve this referencing problem but seem to keep running into the same problem of the imported presets not updating if the original preset is changed.

Any help would be muchly appreciated!

Thanks, John
