Images Scale Down When I Drag Them Into Photoshop

Hi

Sometimes when I drag images into a Photoshop document they scale down for some reason. Other times they don’t scale at all, which is what I want. Why does this happen?

When I drag images into a Photoshop document as apposed to opening them, selecting all and copy pasting them into the document, they come in as smart objects. Is it perhaps a setting for smart objects? Why does it sometimes scale and sometimes not?

This is really slowing down my workflow, any one got any ideas?

EDIT: solved it myself, it was a DPI issue. Opening a 72dpi image in a 300dpi document causes scaling.
