hi,
i’m looking for a new image viewer for my windows box that is suitable for displaying the common file formats and sizes used in CG.
i’ve so far done ok with a mix of Faststone and XNview (the classic one) but have only worked in games for a long time (comparably small images, 8 bits per channel, maybe an alpha, usually TGA, PSD, JPG, DXT) and never given VFX a glance.
the recent mari challenge i competed in has made me aware that my choice of viewers is a pain when dealing with 4k plus size images, 16 bits per channel and upwards, cannot deal with EXR, and probably has more issues i’ve already mindbleached.
so what’s out there, preferably freeware but at this point i’m considering commercial ones as well.
- thumbnail browser
- FAST
- can display/toggle alpha channels
- can display - at least in some capacity - 16 bits per channel or more
- handles all the usual formats but also CG relevant ones like EXR
i’m mostly stumbling at FAST and alpha-toggle already.
please, enlighten.
edit: on second glance this thread seems a better fit for the general discussion sub forum. i’d be thankful if a mod could move it. cheers.
