Image Based Lighting question

#1

I’ve started recently to focus on IBL for my renders and now I’ve run into an issue that I’m having trouble fine tuning. To illustrate the problem I’m simply going to provide two images. One is of my model and the other is a final image that I am trying to recreate.

The top image is mine. Clearly you can see the fluid in the glass is not as the fluid in the bottom image. I am using HDRI images for this scene but before I begin to fine tune and apply proper textures I want to isolate the issue with the wine glass. I’ve been tweaking various values but can’t seem to get rid of the blotches you see in the glass. I don’t know if this has to do with reflection or glossiness etc. When I render out the glass without the contents it’s looks fine. There is a nice refraction effect which gives it a realistic look. Once the fluid is inserted (I’ve tried fluid textures, solid textures, glass textures etc) and the patchiness is still there so I don’t know if this has to do with the IBL or something else. Perhaps I’ve activated a setting that is creating this issue but I honestly don’t know what at this time.

If somebody can share some ideas on what to do in order to clean it up then I would very much appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you.

how does it look like without the wine.?
does the wine intersect with the glas.?

This looks like a geometry-intersect issue. And keep in mind you’ll have to have different Index of Refractions for your various parts:

don’t forget to turn up the ray depth for transparent surfaces

Hello

Thanks for replying. I was sitting looking at the geometry and it dawned on me that when I copied the geometry for the “wine”, it was directly over the geometry of the glass and that was causing the distortion. I scaled down the “wine” geometry by a fraction and that cleared up the problem.

It’s usually the small detail that is overlooked.

Thanks again for replying.
