It is really critical for everybody to condemn these practices as they clearly insult our mental integrity, and for everybody who works at autodesk sending those mails, to stop supporting tyranny.

#3

Its just a promotion, and they are not in the business of making cheap software for you, they want your money, simple…some non artist in management just trying to make quarterly earning goals, like every other big corp. It could be useful to some people who need newer features, though, it does suck to never own what your paying for any more. Its always been expensive, but there are options, nobody is making you use maya, blender is free. I mean, I actually never meet anyone who enjoys using maya anyways, haha…Its like powerpoint, sometimes you gotta use boring buggy shit for work.

#4

Ohhhhh. I see what’s happening here… you are misunderstanding Words.

Tyranny =*cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary use of power or control.

This email = a completely optional 20-30% offer should you care to upgrade your software to a newer version.

Or am I misunderstanding? Did Daniel Piinhero come to your front door with a Uzi and an Ultimatium?

#5

cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary use of power or control.

I think that’s exactly the point I was trying to make.

#6

Are they FORCING you to use their software under duress? Quickly! Call the FBI, *Police or James Bond. *

Here’s me thinking they are a software company making tools for Artists and Designers for YOU to use and make money with? *

Have they suddenly been taken over by ISIL? I must have missed that announcement.

I think possibly you are somewhat overreacting to a MONEY OFF VOUCHER. It’s not terms for surrender or A death threat written with cut out newspaper letters you know?

There is another option of course - perhaps to move to a less threatening industry… say Mine Sweeping or Shark Wrestling?

I wouldn’t like to appear harsh, but you seem so disconnected from reality that I don’t know where to begin.
Where have you been since this subscription-only calamity occurred? It has been discussed a million times here, and at every other place where you find pixels.

#8

He seems pretty connected to reality, and understands the game of life. Nobody is disagreeing the subscription only route sucks, but sometimes it doesn’t when you need maya for a single project, remember, its not the only option around, nor most peoples favorites. Yes, its obvious what AD is trying to do with the promotion, cannibalize a truley owned license to make money (surprise, they want to make money too!).* What do want them to do exactly then, what is your solution? You should take that anger and focus it on the cable companies, now they really suck

#9

I’d be more worried about all the grammar, typographical and English language mistakes in that one email.

Indeed, as they mention this is a ‘limited opportunity’.

#10

Indeed, the very proof that AD has a kind of monopoly, is their very decision to force that model without respect.
They are experts in terms of macro management and deducted that they are in position to succeed, because they know that there are no real alternatives. If there was, they wouldn’t have dared this move.
That’s why I was calling for fighting against this system to prevent this to further spread, before it is too late and middle-class is annihilated, only leaving off the corporations and their slaves…

#11

No alternatives? Really? There are plenty, I have avoided using maya or AD product as any kind of main package for years at studios. Sometimes a project calls for it, there are definitely alternatives.

Nobody is forced, buy purchasing a good, you also place a vote, you vote for company X over Y, if you don’t like something, don’t vote for it, in this case use an alternative, people already do it for PS alternatives.

Middle class annihilation? Lol, how old are you, you do realize how inaccessible 3d software, specifically maya, was, just 15 years ago? It more or less required an expensive, non middle class sgi machine to run it, most likely a computer in a lab, and the cost of the seat itself was for that time, extremely high, with no comparable alternatives like there are now. It can be viewed as a monopoly, the same can be said about it 15yrs ago, except now there are plenty of options, and competition, but of course, more competition is better for the users. I agree, wish software was cheaper, but if you are making money off of it, maya is not that much. I like your young idealist energy though, I get it, in this case, it feels like its being wasted.

#12

sounds like a super sweet deal!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Again, process the fact that AD is taking this decision based on a study.

I don’t know what you have been doing with all these protests all over the world against the subscription-only model since this scandal began? Have you read, and analyzed the socioeconomic implications that were powering them?

Are you taking into consideration the suffer this model causes to these people?
Why are they protesting so hard?
Why do they worry so much about their future?

And, please,
Can you quote a realistic alternative to maya for mid to big studios which are based on it?
Can you give a viable alternative to 3dsmax for this “middle-class” freelancers who have forged their skills on it for 15 years?
Can you evaluate for us the cost in time (and therefore in money) for a transition, between a package you spent a dozen of years mastering, to another which you don’t know anything about its ergonomics?

Are you saying that these hundreds of thousands (if not much more) of “middle” people protesting are just juvenile, young/idealist-energy driven?
