Illustrator Questions

#1

Hi, I gotta couple questions about illustrator.

Sometimes when I erase lines from for example a circle instead of erasing it looks like the lines retreat so what I have is a circle with a chunk taken out of it. How do I make it so that what I try to erase simply is erased?

When I select something and try to move or resize it instead of just the element much of its surroundings also move. How do I move only the element I have selected by clicking and dragging the marquee box?

Thanks

  1. Could it be that you are erasing a circle that has a stroke AND a fill applied to it? If the fill is white and the background is white then you may not notice it. When you erase part of the circle, the stroke continues around the erased fill. If there was no fill then only the stroke would be erased, and vice versa.

  2. You will move everything that you have selected but you can make more accurate selections by using the Direct Selection Tool (white arrow). Is it possible you have a Group of objects?

I don’t know how familiar you are with Illustrator.

How would you erase fills so that the erasing could go back to normal? I tried clicking the object and select no fill but it doesn’t work

Where would I find a button to degroup objects? I simply moved something in a box so I assume it must have automatically grouped them.
