Ik Problem

#1

Hello, i have a problem in Maya with moving the leg from the hip down. The Leg won’t bend when i grab the hip joint and move it down as shown here in this image: http://i.imgur.com/O7HteKy.jpg [1]
I followed this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRdOn4Xphw4[2]
hope someone knows how to fix this. Thanks

Maybe I didn’t understood what you were saying but it sounds like you’re trying to bend the leg using an IK by translating the joint, if I’m right then your mistake is that to bend the leg you don’t move the joint but the IK, once you create it (the IK) you’ll see that at the root of the leg there are some lines, that’s the IK and you have to move those so that the leg bends…

Sorry if I can’t explain it very well, English is my second language but I hope it helps
Btw, very nice model you have there n.n

hello erika, you did understand my problem. but the the tutor in the tutorial does control the legs with the root / hip-joint at the end of the tutorial without using the directly the ik handles…how come he can ?

Are you sure? During what part of the video did he do that? I saw some of it and he does use the iks o.O The pivot of the ik is the same as the root joint, but what moves is the ik, not the joint.

hey, please just check out the last minute of the tutorial. I’m pretty sure he just uses the rootjoint.

Not I really need to finish the rig until latest sunday because of a deadline i set myself for my student project. Need to start animating soon.

Maybe it’s because he uses no Pole vector on the rp solver, but a average-node between the control and the ik rp-solver to control the twisting ?

i created a rig now using this tutorial with a pole vector .

it works this way. by pulling the root joint down ( without using the ik handle ) the leg goes in its knees.

still thanks alot to you erika !

Oooooh, no, they bend because the foot are parented to the controllers, so they can’t move from there, forcing the ik to bend as if you were moving both iks. Good luck and you’re welcome
