IK/FK snap

#1

I’ve been looking around the internet and haven’t found much helpful info on this topic. Can anyone help me with this? I’m looking for the theory behind snapping the position of an FK arm to an IK arm and vice versa.

I set up my FK/IK switch which works smoothly, I tried simply copying the IK joints rotation values and pasting them into the FK controls to see if they end up in the same position which didn’t work, so I’m guessing I’ve set things up wrong. Would rotation orders of the joints have anything to do with this? Would the Local Rotation Axis of the joints behind different from the controls also cause the IK joints and FK controls to be aligned differently?

Hopefully that makes sense. If anyone has any tips on this that’d be great. Thank you!

There must be tons out there on this by now. Check out this free, fairly recent series by Chad Robert Morgan via 3DWorld.

My Google skills clearly aren’t very good… although this morning I spent some time on it and got it working, haha. I’ll watch through those tutorials now, thank you!
