ignoring story animation

#1

I am using Motionbuilder 7.5 with no extensions.

Under Character controls, I can save a characters motion out. If I load that motion onto a character later on, it works fine.

However, If I load that animation into story, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Even with the same character. Is there anything fundamental I’m missing?

On the charcater animation track, after adding the motion, have you used the pulldown menu to choose the character you want it to affect? Is story mode on?

Obvious ones those, but I thought I should ask

We’ve had some issues with story not always wanting to comply with animation dropped into the story-line.

Sometimes it is a matter of the animation that was previously aved out (in character controls) not having been saved out for a character with specific characteristics. Sometimes an animation file with its figure having a tail, would be able to be brought in and applied in story to a character without a tail and everything seemed to work fine. Other times story would balk at this and deny motion to the entire character. It would more often than not turn the character into a parapalegic disabling its legs, but giving its upper body normal motion.

If possible try to save out the animations onto the exact character and use these files for that character. Seems to work without any troubles within story. (It just makes for a lot of animation saving for various characters into various folders… and in our case that means a real lot of saving ! ugh!) I’ve been trying to figure out how to batch file this task, or if it is possible to do at all.

Not sure if this is any help, or if I am off in what I’m trying to explain. Hopefully you’ve resolved this and will return with a solution.

Meanwhile, good luck !

I don’t know if this helps, but have you tried looking at the solving mode of your animation clips? Sometimes changing from control rig to skeleton works when I had similar issues.
