Ignoring physical sun and sky reflection in maya

#1

hi all,
I am using physical sun and sky + Portal Light, for lighting an interior room though it is giving me good render output. But i am facing one problem.
Problem is that i can’t ignore physical sun and sky reflection on my reflective props which is kept in side the room, although my room is cover except window opening.
So please anybody know how to do it, Please let me know!!

Thanks

I’ve had this problem before when using mia_car_paint… I think it has to do with the “trace depth” in either the mr render globals or the material itself.

I believe a value of “1” in trace depth is a special case that essentially says “only use the environment when tracing reflections”

I’ll do a little research and get back with you – this is something I’ve been meaning to look at again for a while.

So the objects are reflecting the whole sky and not just the window? Is the window geometry set to be visible in reflections in the attributes?

Thanks EdtheHobbit for your comment looking forward to do dis

Another option you can look into is the ‘rayswitch_’ nodes. This way you can apply other reflection rays to the object instead of the sun sky rays.

I had the same problem with a bathroom render - practically a very small window and all the walls reflecting the blue sky from roughly the middle, and below that the usual grey…
So when I read the comment of EdtheHobbit, it gave me an idea, so I looked into the material reflection settings. I’m using mia materials on this, and under Reflection/Advanced reflection the Use Max Distance is ticked automatically. So after a max distance it automatically switches to the environment color.
So just untick it and all will be fine
