Ideas for Virtual stunt from photos

#1

Hi!

I’m need to create CGI scenes where normal actor is replaced with CG stunt.

Example imagine scene where real actor runs towards street. In next shot there will be CG stunt double running in to the street and gets hit by a car driving at high speed. Next shot shows closeup from real actor lying on street. Ok, so it’s quite simple scenario…

Camera tracking is done, mocap is done for the CG running, actual collision with car and stunt is simulated with Endorphin. Only problem at the moment is to get the actual CG stunt to look like the real actor… I need to create several this kind of scenes, and major of them has different actor.

Now all ideas are welcome, how to quickly create CG stunt doubles for real actors. They don’t have to be photorealistic, most of the shots are from pretty far away, but clothing (or textures) and physics have to be quite same.

I have one idea, that i havent tested yet… I was planning to take front, back, side and face photos of the real actor. Then propably create Poser character with same kind of body structure that the actor has. Then use those photos as textures for this model. Maybe in Poser or in Bodypaint?

Then export it to Cinema4D (3D app we use at the moment) and animate it there.

Has anyone ever tried this? is there any easier / faster way of doing rough model of human with textures from photos of real actor?

Ideas?

Sincerely,
Seppo ‘Jehvi’ Sormunen
