ICE performace

#1

Hi! I’m a 3dsmax user learning XSI, and decided to give it a try on ICE. It’s an amazing tool but whenever I try to stick particle to an animated deforming mesh, the performance goes to a crawl. For example, I had a test low poly character point cached, 10k particle locked to the mesh I get around 10fps. It’s odd because in particle flow I get realtime feedback with ~30fps with the same amount of particles.

Is this performance hit normal? What is the best method for locking particles on an animated deforming mesh?

Regards,
Jr.

Try with stick to Surface node, in the surface interaction.

[size=2]Can’t attach image on xsibase so I reply here

100k particles
ice: 20,5 fps
pflow: 0,7 fps / 3 fps with all frames preview, not realtime

300k particles
ice: 8,3 fps
pflow: 0 fps + max hangs for ~2 minutes after changing number of particles

Yup that works.
I was trying to do it on another deformed object-via Get Particle Stick Location which wasn’t allowing such a straight forward hook-up.
I was thinking that was what the OP wanted as well…
