As practice for myself, I’m trying to composite an Image Based Lighting render into a live action shot, using the method Paul Debevec outlines here: http://www.debevec.org/Research/IBL/debevec-siggraph98.pdf
I’ve got my background plate:

My IBL pass:

My Table Render without the objects, textured with a projection map of the background plate:

And my object matte:

I can never get it to look right- at most it looks no better than just putting the full IBL render over the plate. I’m not exactly sure how the Difference part is supposed to look.
If someone could describe the best way to do this- or better yet, post a comp file- I’d really appreciate it. I have a feeling that it’s something really simple I’m missing.
