I5 Minute Sketchathon - Thread 2: Sketches

#1241

Hi, these forums are a jungle, I wander how you keep track of all these

I knew about the 2, 5, 15 sketches, that’s the reason my first post was in this format, then it came to me that this thread may have other ā€œrulesā€ and I asked that question.
Thanks for reply, now I know what to follow.

I spent a little over 15 minutes on this one.

#1244

argggh bloody arrggghh

this one got me, just can’t get that damn rider right, at least not without spending even more time

the reference is here http://blog.francis.vachon.net/_photos/rodeo-SCJC-2005-04.jpg was an evil one to post Martin :scream:

#1245

Hmm, I’d say for a double~whammy (horse + human) you should give yourself 15 minutes each. Seems only fair.

Nice sketch besides!

A couple of wacom doggies, I had to resize the ref pics and put them on the corner for drawing so the foreshortenin etc is off :(.

#1248

Another wacom Doggie!

Hi everybody,

I’ve decided to let the computer apart, and work with traditionnal tools at last.
Here are my attempts to this sketchathlon, and I think it’s a great exercise for a guy like me who tends to spend a lot of time on a picture…
Enough blabla.

#1251

Arctis,

Totally fabulous to see you here! :applause: Beautiful work, as always your work has an unusual sensitivity…definitely liking the traditional approach! :arteest:

Cheers,

Hi Rebecca,
Thanks for your re-welcome!

Here are 2 more. Though all the weaknesses of these drawings, I think I’m improving a bit after each one. It’s probably not obvious, but it’s important to feel better and better while drawing.
Some of my goals, for now, are too get more strength (stronger contrast and bigger black areas) and more subtility too.

#1253

Arctis,

You’re quite welcome! Your work shares some similarities I think with the sensibilities of Siju ~ you should definitely check out his Anatomy Thread, if you’ve not already, which is here:

Anatomy Thread of Thomasphoenix

Great work from both of you!

Cheers,

#1254

Argh! I’m really out of practice…

A bull…sort of…:curious:

#1255

And just for the sake of redemption…

Spent a little extra time on this one…

#1256

Hey,

Nice one, good use of contrast. There’s often something meditative in your picture, like if the presence of the subject was suggested… great sensibility : you really develop a special digital style.

Keep it up !

#1257

Pierre,

Thanks a lot! That’s a nice compliment coming from you. BTW, I saw your ā€˜naked elf’ image over at TSOFA, it’s really beautiful! As always, I’m a fan.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#1258

Rebeccak,

thanks for the answer, I also thought I might work more on some of these to see what will happen :).
So two more for today the first with ink and gouache and the second with ball pen, trying different mediums:

I spent about 26 minutes on this one. I decided to try and loosen up and go for some color
