I need some help with my hair people =)

So yeah I make my hair using the curves method I learned from Digital Tutor…

But… I must be missing something because at this point I cant get a clean render of what im doing. and when I try converting the paint effects to polygons I get this…

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just point me in a direction if you dont wanna help that much, anything would help =)
