I have a question about drawings

#1

Throughout my years in school, I was pretty good at drawing. I could look at a comic book and draw almost the exact picture that I’m looking at. Thats where my drawings really looked excellent. In terms of drawing stuff without having a pic to look at, I suck. I’m terrible. I’ve read many art books and how to draw books and for some ungodly reason my drawings are horrible. But if I draw something right out of a comic book, I was good as gold. I labeled myself the “human copy machine.”

Well when I gradudated high school in 1999 drawing comic book characters took a back seat. For the last 7 years I haven’t drawn anything like that up until 2 hrs ago. I found a nice portrait type drawing of the Wonder Woman during my googling conquests and thought I’d see if I still have the drawing ability. Well i still got it and with some refinement I can get better again… at becoming a “human copy machine.”

It felt pretty good drawing something by looking at a picture. My right hand kinda hurts because I’m not used to it. Since my discovery of the computer, the only thing I do with any writing instrument is to fill out checks to pay the bills lol. So now I got this urge to start drawing. Ya know, an alternative hobby to staring at a LCD screen. But I want to show off some of the work that I have “copied.”

I’d like to add a page on my site that just shows some stuff that I have drawn in the past and present. Put some type of disclaimer on there indicating to everyone that I’m not taking credit for the artwork because I hand copied it and that I will not be selling them.

I’m just wondering if its wrong for me to hand copy an original artwork and post the drawing on my webpage?

Like I said earlier I would not be taking credit for the artwork because all I did was hand copy it and post it on my site.

I’m not doing this to draw up some drawing business. Just another hobby that I’m getting back into and enjoy doing it.

If you copy from another picture, just make sure you state so. You can also imbed in your image “After so-and-so.”

Cool! Thanks for the reply. I have another question,

Would this be considered cheating:

This image is the original found on google

This image was modded in photoshop

This is what I drew by copying the photoshop image

Obviously I didn’t cheat by tracing the modded image. But like my question states: is it considered cheating when I do it like this? I’ve tried to use the original image as a reference but I can never get my drawings to look right. But when I mod the original in photoshop, I can get a close likeness to what I’m drawing as seen in the last image.

I don’t know, I’m just weird that way I guess.
