Human Skin WIPs and Tips (Everyone feel free to post your own skin WIPS here too)

#1301

Hello. I am having a problem with the miss_fast_skin shader for mental ray in Maya 6.5. For some reason it’s not generating the lightmaps. I keep on getting errors that there is no texure file referenced. It’ driving me crazy, so if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Could you post a screenshot of the shading group graph?

have you created the light map file at 32 bit?

#1303

here’s an update with the corrected color map and pink lips…!!!..and also the specular map…

hi leftyfallat have a look at this thread http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=214189 i hope u’ll be benefited…

#1305

Really nice!could you post a less compressed image?

#1306

thanks learner88…i’ll post one soon!!!

#1307

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I was having a problem with the lightmap. I had to create a temporary .iff file instead of a .tif.

Here’s what I’ve been working on…It’s very rough because I just starting texturing it today.

Here’s the link to my WIP site if anyone’s interested.

My new contribution to the topic

XSI FND and the fastskin

#1309

this last one is really nice!but the yellowish parts under the eyes are a bit too yellow…

#1310

This is an awesome forum by the way. I am still working on the skin shader and I think I’m starting to come to grasps with it. The lip texture is pretty bad at the moment but I was wondering if the overall scattering is looking alright.

#1311

I have never used SSS that extensively yet, but I think the ears need a little redness and I would ease up on the skin’s yellow-ish tint.

Keep at it…I am still learning about this…

J3ST3R : really good skin ( except the lips ) and the eyes and lashes are really beatifull !

#1313

This is a character I’m currently working on. I’ve just updated his diffuse map. the left half is still lacking details. I’m still struggling on how to make the details look correct. C&Cs are welcome!

hi j3st3r vbmenu_register(“postmenu_2711975”, true); that’s a great work man…a bit yellowish and little waxy, i think!!!..eyelashes are amazing…and eyes too…yeah…u need to work on the lips…

hi STRI…it’s coming up nice…that’s a scary cut…don’t u think if it’s a fresh cut…the areas near it should be a liitle red???..the big spots can be reduced and non uniform…if u r using a custom brush in photoshop to paint them for ur diffuse/color map…reduce them…and very the sizes!!!..it’ll look more natural!!!..coming up nice…keep it up…

This is great stri!the eyes make him lose realisticity…they are not wrong, but they seem tto bright for the lightiing, the skin is great for me!

Although this isn’t human skin, it does involve sss. It’s more of a question really. When using indirect lighting like final gather, my renders generally have a very grainy look to them. It only occurs when I’m using sss, and not other shaders. I’ve tried adjusting min/max, rays, samples and haven’t had any luck. Here’s a pic of the render. Any ideas as to what could help fix it? When “include indirect lighting” is unchecked, it’s fine.

#1317

did you mean the min max radius?try to turn up the light map samples.see what happens…

#1318

learner88: I recently had similar problems when using IBL. Try blurring your environment map. The next step after that is cranking up your final gather rays. jt3st3r: What approach did you take when making your eyelashes?

#1319

Thanks guys…Eyelashes are bruteforce modelling… I’ve create initially a curve, and the basic model of a lash was duplicated along the curves, then I scaled, moved the, then I proportionally tweaked them, etc. Bruteforce technic, but it gives me the result what I was after.

#1320

that’s the method i prefere to make eyelashes.
