Nice modeling looks great. No real crits, the only thing is maybe the ear looks a little strange to me. Cant quite pick it, but thats about it.
Good job. Ive played with zbrush a bit. I feel you need a real artistic talent to use it well. Its has a totally differnt feel than maya . Its more like pushing around clay.
well done
Human Skin WIPs and Tips (Everyone feel free to post your own skin WIPS here too)
hey all,
here is a skin wrk in progress of a female character i am doin. i have some issues with the model, and have fixed them up now, but this is still an older rendered shot, seeing this is more focused on skin, will show the improved version soon. i still havnt added a spec map to the equation, and am playing around with the colour and bump still, adding a few more blemishes, like moles and veins around the temple and nose area. she is going to have like a model complexion, so she will have extraordinarily gorgeous skin, so probably not the best model to show texturing skills, but let me know what you think. im using the MiSSS shader, still adjusting the back scattering layer too! :wip:

I thnk your backscatter is fine… a bit much yes… but overall it’s great
Can you teach us how to get that setting right ?
thx
Hey, I would like a little advice for this texture I am about to post. I am showing some kids on how to create a human character, and I would like to know from texturing artists (especially Leigh) if this skin is too splotchy (used Dr. Julian’s dissolve method), and if I should continue to add all kinds of skin variance. I have some skin variance but I would love to add more. I had it cropped from its actual res of 2048x2048
Looking forward to your advice. Will be using XSI and Diffusion shader. Thanks :)

dees-
thanks man, havnt worked on her for a while now, been working on my research assignment, and the practical model for that, which is my spectacular entry too…this model will actuall be in my research assign too…AAH!
ive been told that the best way to get a descent result is to switch off all the other scattering layrs including your diffusion colour. like here…i think its good to do that with all the sss layers to get a good look at what they are all doing.

HaloAnimator-
i think you might have a little too much noise on that skin texture. skin does have alot of inconsistancies, but not as uniform either.
Thanks baker,
that is not noise, it is actually dissolved layers that I made, and I think you are right and I put on too much. Next time I work on the texture, I wll tone down the dissolve layer or up its opacity
working on this skin test…thanks a lot leigh…ur knowledge is a great gift to us all…!!!..i’m using max MR SSS…
A little something I am working on. I don’t think I will leave it like this, my plan is to make a deader looking skin, greens, browns.etc
When I look at this I think it has too much SSS on it. It almost looks like wrinkly baby skin.
Max MR SSS
2 jbrophy C00L!!! maybe put some more info about skin shader?
Ear looking too wax i think.
jBrophy-
dude that is sick! leave it as is, maybe alittle more detail on the colour, but other than that, its really great skin. i think it adds a certain scariness hving the skin that kinda soft look. top stuff, look foward to the end result!
here is my final texture render, need to get onto the rest of the model now. thats using Misss, with a diffuse, epidermal, spec and bump. and a tratitional point light setup, using 3 lights. not a very expensive render. but plan to beef the render up when coming to the final piece.

The texture seems very good but the shader makes it very orange and with flat colours…
dhurvsm-
the texture looks fine. this might seem a funny point to make, but you have the tattoo over a mole on her face…they cant actually tattoo over a mole, as ive been told when getting mine, they can shade a tat over a mole, but no solid lines like that…just thought i would share LOL. i also think is a little orange, the texture you painted will work really well, but it doesnt look like you have the SSS on there, shadows are a little too dark, and no backscattering. but nice model…keep it up! ![]()
thanks learner88…i’ll try to do correction with the shader…i know it’s looking orange and not really coming up that sss feeling…
thanks baker17…thanks a lot for that funny little information…that’s so sweet…when i was drawing that tattoo…i thought for a second should or should i not make that over that mole …then i worked on…i will correct that thing…yeah, no backscattering …having some problem controling the sss shader…anyway…i hope i will overcome that …
will post an update soon…
a corected mr sss fast skin Max Shader…corected the model to actual size and changed different weight values…different 3 point light positions used…C & C welcome…
nice dhurvsm!
one thing, you might want to ge tthat nive pinky look you have on the scar, onto the lips…they look a little too pale for me…but much better! looking good.
thanks a lot learner88…
and thanks a lot too… Baker17…yeah, i also think that the lips are pale…thanks for pointing them out…i’ll make them more lively…look for an update!!!..
Baker17 : i think the girl is sick.she is a little bit yellow or its my monitor and she needs more varitions i guess.
dhruvsm : now its a lot better. but i think its more like wax or plastic or its just me and the sss around the ear is very high i’m almost sure that if you finished the model it will dispear… i think you need to paint a bump insted of painting it in the colour map…maybe this model is for games ? i don’t know i didn’t read this thread in ages i just red this page.
here is my partcipation.
i don’t know which one is better.
