cheers for the comments guys:), ill play around with the diffuse coulor and specular and the rest…
gee thanks Leishiy3d just what I wanted to hear :scream: lol

leigh;
The black dots kind of just went away (possibly when I lowered the sample rate) but I still dont understand why, and the unwanted wires I think were being caused by a transparent raytraced material in the scene, well, atleast when I deleted it they stopped showing.

Heres my tests, using MAX and MR SSS

#1263

What to say? Perfect. Would you mind sharing your shader and light setup? It’s among the best I’ve seen

#1264

Holy crap that’s nice! Geez. Yeah, please, elaborate and dumb it down for those of us who neither have Max or MR just to get an idea of what’s going on.

#1265

Very nice indeed H N Phan,

One of the best .

Is you model of Jaap Stam or is it just coincidence?

heres a fast run through:
0. Base model in Max
very quick with abit of edge loop, distance between edges constant as possible

  1. Model detail in Zbrush

lots of wrinkles and details, high frequency will be put on using bump map

  1. Texture and unwrap

unwrap using spherical projection, texture with photos and manual paint in photoshop

  1. Light setup

Mental Ray’s Final gathering with HDRI lighting and 1 spotlight using Area raytraced shadows

  1. Shader playing

Using Fast SSS, tweak skin shader and fake global illumination as needed. This part is the longest, and I suggest you experiment, the skin looks different under varying light conditions: low light (looks more waxy), strong light (looks more… dunno how to say it)

  1. Video post

I just put an Level adjustment layer and tweak it

Im not sure if I’m allowed (mod, remove this sentence if it violates rules), but I have put my head model with complete lighting rig and shader for Max on SELL at turbosquid.

#1275

hey there,
im sort’ve a beginner at shading, and was wondering if any of you knew a really good skin shader that was compatible with mac?? im running maya 6. are alot of you using skin shader plug-ins, or creating the shaders?? stahlberg has a tutorial for faking translusency, but has admitted too, that its outdated. and SSS is whats used now. just cant find a shader that supports os x, and do i need one? sorry if this is the wrong forum.

hey leigh, how ya doin?? nice thread! great work on here!! :buttrock:

#1276

We need more people updating their wicked shaders!, and as an example I’ll come forth out of the lurking shadows of this thread and post my progress. Thanks for everyone thats posting! Really neat stuff in this thead!

XSI, using hdri images based lighting, global illumination, and the diffuse SSS addon.

Here’s a head I’ve been working on. Before you go nuts about the modelling, it’s just a head I generated using Poser with some crazy tweaking with the settings. The face, however, is almost entirely my creation, using a few reference photos.

I still class this as a WIP because of the lack of detail on the ears and forehead (above the crinkles.) You can see the rest of my work at 3dlinks, I’m user Chris Gregory. http://www.3dlinks.com/GalleryDisplay.cfm?ArtistID=4030

#1278

poser is a head generator ?

very nice texture …

dees

#1279

I was sculpting this head from basic max mesh in zbrush. I was having a few problems around the eyes so dropped back a few subd’s and resculpted …and then it crashed losing my work :frowning:

So I made a composite to show the initial work. the eyes and hair are from a photo. The render is zbrush and layered in photoshop with a 20% hard light.

C&C welcome

Hi everyone. Well, i think ive read up to about the 15th page. Im looking for an answer to my problem. Its simple really, i just want to know what mapping i use for each part of the body. Eg. the legs and arms i would use a cylindrical map im sure, but im unsure about the chest, and torso area.

Heres the head i have so far. nothing fancy on it yet. Just a simple bump.

you can see the wip here of the body and head.
