I started working on another project. This is a spacecraft that is based on current technology. It’s what I imagine a spacecraft for first human Mars mission would look like.
The spacecraft is composed of 6 modules, each 8m across and 12m length. Each contains different spacecraft system and each module would be launched on Space Launch System rocket, or SLS. It’s currently under the development by NASA. If I remember correctly, it will be capable of launching around 130 tons into LEO (Low Earth Orbit).
General module plan:
Module 1 - greenhouse
Module 2 - Laboratories
Module 3 - Spaceship control systems - GNC, trajectory, communications, environmental control system…
Module 4 - Airlock, docking port, robotic arm
Module 5 - Crew quarters, living room, kitchen, gym
Module 6 - Storage space, 3d printer
Every module is connected to nearest module by a corridor. Those 3 yellowish spheres are supercritical helium tanks. It’s used to pressurize fuel in fuel tanks.
Here is my latest WIP render, modeled in blender and rendered with Cycles
