Hue Brush?

#1

Does anyone know how to paint various hues on an image without altering it’s saturation or value?

I’m blending several images of a face into a single texture, the issue is that there are varying exposures and the color tends to be less than homogeneous. I’ve adjusted levels, and hue on the individual layers, although there are localized areas within a section which are obviously discolored.

I started to make hue/saturation masks around these areas in order to bring the color together. This is working okay. But what I realized is, I am really looking for a way to alter color on a local level without covering the value or detail of the image.

I’m thinking that there is a blending mode that I am overlooking which will allow me to select a color and paint, resulting a change in hue, without covering the value of the original image.

So, as usual, I posted my issue only moments before I found the solution. I guess the process of posting can be as helpful as the answer which may occur.

It seems that there is a specific blending mode which addresses my exact need, it’s called color (imagine that), it preserves the value/grayscale data while allowing for a desired hue/sat edit.

There is also a blending mode Hue which leaves saturation alone. I only mention this because the thread title is about hue.
