How to use Mapping Object?

I have mapped an image to a simple poly plane and have used this as an emitter by using “Position Object”. I then selected this plane in “Mapping Object” in hopes that the colors from the image would be on the particle cubes(Shape/Cube 3D). Selecting the plane in “Mapping Object” doesn’t change a thing- all the particle cubes are still the same color when rendered. I have tried moving the “Mapping Object” to different positions in the Event and selected various options but nothing changes. What am I overlooking or misunderstanding? Probably something simple. :slight_smile: Thanks.

Mapping Object transfers the mapping, not the materials. Do the particles have the same material applied as the plane?

They do now. :slight_smile: Thanks- that was what I was overlooking. I’ve just started playing with the 2010 demo and things do work a little differently than XSI- though I have overlooked the obvious in that too(as well as LW, C4D and MAYA over the years). :slight_smile: MAX has definitely improved over the years- I’m seeing a lot of nice things in it now, though a node based material system would be nice. Thanks again.
