how to transfer controls from one model to another one>????

Hi guys I’m practicing animation really hard these days.I’m using Mery Rig for maya it’s a free and a great rig I have some models which are rigged (without controllers) So I wanna transfer the controllers from mery to my characters how to do that?? I mean all the IK and FK systems.I know facial is a little bit impossible to be transfered but for body there should be a way. PLZ help me with this tnx.

Practically speaking it’s not possible.

Either the rig was created manually or automatically (either with several individual scripts or a modular rigging tool): if it was created manually then the rig was created specifically for that character’s proportions and adjusting the values which determine the transformations of the joints (like cartoony stretching or bending on the arms and legs) would be a long, painstaking and boring process. Alternatively if the rig was created automatically then you’re also in a bad position because you don’t have access to the scripts or tools which make the rig.

My suggestion would be to buy a rigging tool from somewhere like CreativeCrash or, if you really want to have the same types of controls as the Mery Rig, you analyse the character’s node network and try to recreate it yourself which would be difficult because it looks like a pretty complex character, I did that for the Malcolm facial rig and it was indeed difficult but I learned a lot.

Tnx for the reply.I just wanna transfer ik_fk system.you mean there’s no way and I have to recreate it by my self? Bet facial is a lot harder but for body just needs to replace the joints it’s a long time haven’t work on rigging that’s why I ask you that is it possible?I mean I just attach this joints to my joints by parenting or so then in theory it should work.what’s your idea my friend?

Of course you can recreate it by yourself but it’s a complex system which would be difficult to recreate even if you had good rigging skills. The only way to practically reuse the rig would be if your character was the same proportions as Mery and was modelled in the same rest pose.

Tnx for the reply again.you talked about the rest pose but the only problem is not the rest pose it’s also about the length of the joints.so as I remember there was a hotkey that you could use to change the place of the joints so if I use this method it’s gonna work.but the only thing I’m not sure about is that can I move the joints that carry Ik systems on them or not this is the biggest challenge I guess.what do you think let me know.Tnx again dude!

You might be think of the Insert key which allows you to change the pivot of an object, but that wouldn’t be much use in this case. This is what I would recommend: https://www.creativecrash.com/maya/script/-rapid-rig-modular-procedural-auto-rig-for-maya, there are other alternatives, some of them are even free, but people seem to like Rapid Rig.
