How to "save" this scene in the post-production?

#1

Hello,

I’ve made this with a friend in 3ds Max and as you can see he messed up with the lights and that’s why the grass looks so damn awfull (this is what you get when you do things with lazy people)…

It’s an animation and the fact is that we can’t render it again (we don’t have more time). The only way to save it would be in the post production. I’ve tried the noise reduction filter from after effects but it didn’t help much…

I know that After Effects can’t do miracles but do you have an idea how to make it looks a little bit better?

Thanks!

I know you stated that you cannot re-render, but have you thought about doing a pass with the grass creating a matte? This will render a lot faster as you can apply a matte material to the grass and have it only render out the alpha. Then in After Effects use the matte that you rendered to select only the grass etc and then the Color Correction tool of your choice to recolor the grass - personally I would desaturate the grass with hue saturation and then put another hue saturation on top to recolor it to a shade of green to your liking.

There might be a way to key the grass out if for some reason you cannot access the 3D files - but really it looks like a combination of roto-scoping and keying. Not fun. You might be able to get away with a junk matte first (mask out the rough areas of the video) and then change color of the little grey bits - but even then you’d have to rotoscope (go frame by frame and animate the placement) the mask in some spots.

Sorry there isn’t an easier way - at least none that I’m aware of.

Thanks for the solutions Suzann.
I’m gonna to fix it and try to render it out tonight. Let’s see if it’s going to work!
